This is a round base stone to be placed under a Jizo statue or miniature lantern.
Its simple shape and subdued texture subtly enhance the stone statue or lantern, adding a touch of refinement to the location where it is placed.

Made from Kimachi stone, a tuffaceous sandstone from Shimane Prefecture

The material is Kimachi stone from Shimane Prefecture. It's a domestically produced tuffaceous sandstone frequently used in the carving of lanterns and stone Buddha statues. It is known as a raw material for glazes and as the stone material for "Izumo Stone Lanterns," a nationally designated traditional craft. Historically, it was used in the construction of stone coffins and burial chambers during the Kofun period, and from the Kamakura period onwards, it was used for stone Buddha statues and sculptures.

The charm of Kimachi stone lies in how its appearance changes over time. When quarried, it has a bluish tint, but as the moisture evaporates, it gradually changes to a soft, reddish-brown color. Even new products have an aged appearance, and moss easily grows on them, allowing them to blend beautifully into natural spaces.

It can be used both indoors and outdoors.
