京都・龍安寺にある有名な「知足の蹲（つくばい）」。
刻まれた「吾唯足知（われただたるをしる）」は、仏教の教えの一つで「すでに足りていることを知り、あらゆるものに感謝する心」を表しています。
日々の暮らしの中でつい忘れてしまう大事な心を思い出させてくれる存在です。
素材は、島根県産の来待石。灯篭や石仏の彫刻にも多様されている、国産の凝灰質砂岩です。釉薬の原料や、国指定の伝統的工芸品である「出雲石灯篭」の石材として知られています。古くは、古墳時代に石棺や石室の建築に使われたり、鎌倉時代からは石仏や彫刻に使われたりした、歴史ある石です。
来待石は、時間の経過に伴って、表情が変化するのが魅力です。石を切り出した時は、青みを帯びた色をしていますが、次第に水分が抜け、茶褐色の、やわらかな色に変化します。新しい商品でも古色が感じられ、苔が付きやすく、自然のある空間にきれいに溶け込みます。

Crafted from Kimachi stone, a tuffaceous sandstone sourced from Shimane Prefecture, this material is renowned for its use in traditional crafts such as glazed lanterns and "Izumo Stone Lanterns." With a history dating back to the Kofun period, Kimachi stone has been utilized in various architectural and sculptural applications. Over time, its color evolves from a bluish tint to a soft, brown hue, adding character and charm to your space.
