The Buddha Who Guides People to the Pure Land

Amida Nyorai derives his name from the Sanskrit words Amitābha, meaning "Infinite Light," and Amitāyus, meaning "Infinite Life." True to his name, he illuminates the world with immeasurable light and continues to watch over all humanity with a life that knows no end.

Amida Nyorai made a profound vow (the Primal Vow) to lead anyone who chants "Namu Amida Butsu" to the Pure Land, without exception. This teaching forms the bedrock of Pure Land Buddhism. As a source of peace in this life and hope for the next, he has been a pillar of spiritual support for countless people since ancient times.

This statue features the "Funagata" (boat-shaped) style, characterized by its elegant, ship-like silhouette. It was hand-carved by a government-certified Traditional Craftsman from Ibaraki Prefecture. From the serene facial expression to the intricate halo (mandorla) on the back, our local master—highly skilled in the art of stone buddhas and lanterns—has meticulously finished every detail by hand.
