桂離宮水蛍灯篭を模した、活込み型灯篭
桂離宮の松琴亭から賞花亭に行く途中の木立にある、「桂離宮水蛍灯篭」を模した灯篭です。灯を入れて遠くから眺めると、樹間に飛ぶ蛍のように見えることが名前の由来。素朴で美しい、四角型活込み灯篭です。
島根県産凝灰質砂岩、来待石を使用
素材は、島根県産の来待石。灯篭や石仏の彫刻にも多様されている、国産の凝灰質砂岩です。釉薬の原料や、国指定の伝統的工芸品である「出雲石灯篭」の石材として知られています。古くは、古墳時代に石棺や石室の建築に使われたり、鎌倉時代からは石仏や彫刻に使われたりした、歴史ある石です。
来待石は、時間の経過に伴って、表情が変化するのが魅力です。石を切り出した時は、青みを帯びた色をしていますが、次第に水分が抜け、茶褐色の、やわらかな色に変化します。新しい商品でも古色が感じられ、苔が付きやすく、自然のある空間にきれいに溶け込みます。

Water Firefly
A simple yet beautiful square-shaped stone lantern. When the candle is lit and viewed from afar, its triangled shaped window resembles fireflies flying between the trees, hence its name. Its pillar can be adjusted to suit ones tastes.
Using Kimachi Stone from Shimane Prefecture
The material used is Kimachi stone, produced in Shimane Prefecture. Known as the material for glazes and designated as a traditional craft product, "Izumo Stone Lantern," it has been used in the construction of stone coffins and chambers since the Kofun period in Japan. Kimachi stone, with its changing expressions over time, starts with a bluish color when quarried, gradually loses moisture, and transforms into a soft, brownish color. Even if the item is quite new, it looks like an antique. It gets moss easily.
