重さは約15kgと比較的軽く、国内宅配便でお届け可能。設置や移動も簡単なので、手軽に日本の美を生活に取り入れられます。灯篭は５つのパーツに分かれていますが、設置には複雑な作業はありません。

来待石について
味わい深い茶褐色で、温かい表情の「来待石(きまちいし)」。
島根県・宍道湖の南岸（松江市宍道町来待地区）で切り出される、凝灰質砂岩です。砂岩特有の、穏やかな風合いと石肌が評価されています。石質は粒子が緻密で、やわらかく、切り出しや加工がしやすいため、気品高く優雅な作品が仕上がります。

古墳時代の石棺や石室に使われたのち、鎌倉時代からは石塔や石仏などの彫像、かまどや石臼などの生活用具、庭園石材、建材など、身近な所に幅広く用いられました。特に江戸時代は、“御止石(おとめいし)”と呼ばれ、松江藩主が藩外へ持ち出しを禁じたほど重宝されます。江戸時代後期には、石灯篭や狛犬などの来待石製品が、“石の美術品”として好評を得て、全国各地へと広がりました。

現在は、釉薬の原材料や、国指定の伝統的工芸品である「出雲石灯篭」の石材として知られています。来待石は、切り出された時は、青味を帯びた色合いをしていますが、次第に水分が抜け、趣のある茶褐色の、やわらかな風合いに変化していきます。この風化のしやすさは、もろさに繋がりますが、日本人はそこに魅力を見出してきました。

新しい製品でも古色を感じさせ、苔がつきやすく、自然にうまく溶け込むため、日本庭園の景観を彩る素材として欠かせない存在です。また、インテリアとして室内に取り入れることで、上品な雰囲気を演出できます。

About Kimachi Stone
Kimachi stone (Kimachi stone) has a rich, brownish color and a warm appearance.
This tuffaceous sandstone is quarried on the southern shore of Lake Shinji in Shimane Prefecture (Kimachi district, Shinjicho, Matsue City). Its characteristic gentle texture and surface are highly valued. This stone's dense grain, softness, and ease of quarrying and processing allow for the creation of elegant and refined pieces.

After being used for sarcophagi and stone chambers during the Kofun period, from the Kamakura period onwards it was widely used for everyday items such as stone pagodas and stone Buddha statues, everyday items like hearths and stone mills, garden stones, and building materials. During the Edo period in particular, it was known as "Otomeishi" (Otome Stone), and was so highly valued that the lord of Matsue domain banned its export outside the domain. In the late Edo period, Kimachi stone products such as stone lanterns and lion-dog statues gained popularity as "stone works of art" and spread throughout the country.

Today, Kimachi stone is known as a raw material for glazes and as the material for "Izumo Stone Lanterns," a nationally designated traditional craft. When quarried, Kimachi stone has a bluish hue, but as it gradually loses moisture, it develops a soft, tasteful brownish color. This tendency to weather easily makes it fragile, but the Japanese have always found this to be appealing.

Even new products have a patina, moss grows easily, and it blends in well with nature, making it an indispensable material for decorating the landscape of Japanese gardens. Furthermore, incorporating it indoors as interior decor can create an elegant atmosphere.
