In Japan, owls are well known for the combination of the characters "fukurou Ê¡Í衦ʡϯ" (good fortune comes) and "fukurou ÉÔ¶ìÏ«" (no hardships).
They are said to bring good fortune and prosperity to businesses, as their keen eyesight makes them easy to spot good fortune and they have foresight.
In Western mythology, owls are called the "sage of the forest" and are messengers of the goddess of wisdom, and are also symbols of intelligence.

Hirugawa Stone from Gifu Prefecture. A masterpiece hand-carved by a traditional craftsman.

Hirugawa Stone is a rare type of granite characterized by its yellow and reddish rust-like coloration, exclusively found in the vicinity of Hirugawa in Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture. Its textured surface is highly favored and widely used in various applications such as architectural materials, torii gates, and sculptures.

The carving was done by a traditional craftsman based in Ibaraki Prefecture, known for expertise in sculpting stone Buddhas and stone lanterns. Each piece was meticulously hand-carved by local artisans skilled in this craft. It is said that the natural beauty of stone is best revealed through techniques like cobbing, bishan (chiseling), and lightly hammering, rather than polishing. This sculpture, adorned with delicate bishan, is finished in a natural stone style that harmonizes well with Japanese-style gardens and other traditional settings.
