こちらの灯篭に使用しているのは、愛知県岡崎市産の白石（しろいし）。白雲母と黒雲母の両方をもつ、「両雲母花崗岩」という珍しい花崗岩です。安価で品質が良い石なので、以前は灯篭などの石彫刻品に多く使われてきましたが、現在では採石できません。比較的柔らかい石質で、苔が付きやすいのも人気のポイント。

About Misaki style lantern
Misaki-gata, as the name suggests, is a lantern modeled after a lighthouse found on capes. It is one of the three major lantern styles.
Uses Shiro Stone That Is No Longer Mined
The stone used for this lantern is shiro stone from Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture. It is a rare granite called "both-mica granite" containing both white and black mica. Previously, it was commonly used for lanterns and other stone sculptures due to its low cost and high quality, but it can no longer be mined. Its relatively soft texture and moss-friendly properties are also popular features.
